ACTIVITIES AND FUNCTIONS OF PRESS & PUBLIC RELATIONS UNIT

Press or Information and Public Relations Unit of the Ministry is charged with the responsibility of creating awareness on the activities, programmes and projects of the Ministry through publicity. The Unit headed by a Director:

    Functions and Activities
    To achieve the goal of creating awareness, generating support and appreciation for the activities of the Ministry, the followings are the functions and activities of the Unit.
  1. Creation of mutually beneficial linkages between the Ministry and both private and public mass media outlets for interviews, covering the activities of the Ministry or assisting media organisations to research and balance their stories; facility visits, especially to project sites;
  2. Organizing Press Briefings, Conferences and Media Parleys on regular basis;
  3. Establishing and sustaining a robust media relations regime through which communication gaps between the operators of the media and the Ministry are bridged or eliminated for the mutual benefits of both sides;
  4. Utilising the social media to propagate the success stories inherent in the activities, projects and programmes of the Ministry, including contributing contents to the Ministry’s website and that of the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture;
  5. Development and deployment of billboards at strategic locations in the nine Niger Delta States, showcasing the projects, programmes and activities of the Ministry;
  6. Initiating, writing and publishing of articles in newspapers and scripts for radio news analysis on the activities, projects and programmes of the Ministry;
  7. Collating and assembling audio visual materials for the production of video documentary for broadcast on television stations;
  8. Ensuring a cordial relationship between the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture and Federal Government-owned media outlets on public information sharing;
  9. Utilising photographs to tell the story of the projects of the Ministry in the forms of roll-up banners, photo albums, photo news in newspapers and exhibiting such pictures on photo news boards, websites and Apps.
  10. Compiling of contents and assembling same to produce periodical publications showcasing the achievements of the Federal Government through the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs;
  11. Documentation of the speeches of the Ministers and Permanent Secretary for record and reference purposes as such speeches become sources of facts for researchers on the changing situation in the Niger Delta Region of Nigeria; and
  12. Continuing with the time-tested role of maintaining press clips for record, research and as proof of success; and ensuring daily press review for the Hon. Minister, Hon. Minister of State and Permanent Secretary to keep them abreast of the latest news in the Niger Delta Region, the country and abroad.
