Payment of Legionnaires emolument, Ministry’s top priority- Olusade

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs (MNDA), Mr. Olusade Adesola has noted that henceforth, payment of the monthly emolument of legionnaires attached to the Ministry will be prioritized to ensure that they are paid as at when due and other security apparatus would be provided to enable them function optimally.

Mr. Olusade stated this, when he met with officials and members of Legionnaires posted to the Ministry on Tuesday 17th March, 2020 in his office in Abuja.

According to him “payment for persons in the security department is the primary concern of the Permanent Secretary, in fact when any money comes, the first set of people directed to be paid are the security persons including the Legionnaires, because, if you are not paid, you will not be happy to do anything for us, as a result, we would not be safe”.

The Permanent Secretary enjoined Legionnaires attached to the Ministry to ensure that security and safety issues are given the desired attention.

While commending the efforts of the Legionnaires for their unrelenting efforts in ensuring that security of the office remains an important task to be accomplished, he enjoined them to be dedicated to their duties while giving attention to the movement of people within the Ministry.

Speaking further, the Permanent Secretary noted that because of the peculiarity of the Ministry, there is need to device a means of managing visitors who mostly are not officially invited to the Ministry.

The Director General Services of the Ministry, Mrs. Joyce Onwubuariri, in her speech, expressed optimism that the meeting which has severally been rescheduled will be a fruitful one to move the Ministry forward.

Earlier, officials of the Legionnaires, represented by Ibrahim Edime O. thanked the Permanent Secretary for the rear opportunity accorded them to interact with him, being the first time. The Legionnaires raised issues concerning their general welfare of which the Permanent Secretary assured that efforts would be made to address the situation.
